FRANKIE and Benny's Restaurant and Bar, in Haverhill, has been granted planning permission to put up two heated and illuminated parasols with glazed screening for a seating area outside the premises.
The Ehringshausen Way restaurant was given the green light for the changes during St Edmundsbury Council's development control committee meeting on Thursday.

Cllr Peter Stevens had expressed concerns that the outdoor drinking and eating arrangements would detract from the street scene and remove the effect of the open square and plaza near the entrance to neighbouring Cineworld.

However, Cllr Robert Everitt countered his fears, saying: "I have used Frankie and Benny's in Bury, and I certainly don't see them detracting from the street scene there."

It was agreed to allow the planning application providing the parasols and tables and chairs are taken back inside the restaurant no later than 30 minutes after its closure.
