HAVERHILL swimmers helped West Suffolk Swimming Club into fourth in their latest National League match, in London.
Dawn Jason delivered two first places for her home club, in the ladies’ open 100 metres backstroke and 100m freestyle.

Alex Harrison and Bethan Bottomley also swam magnificently to deliver four more first places between them.

Club captain Steff
i Biller opened the evening with second places in the ladies’ open individual medley and 100m butterfly.

Head coach Dan Pilbrow took to the water to take two third places, in the open men’s 100m butterfly and 100m backstroke.

Jordan Christie swam a courageous 13-and-under 110m butterfly, coming third, to keep West Suffolk among the leaders, and Danny Proffitt was third in 15-and-under 100m butterfly.

Biller, Jason, Harrison and Bottomley were part of the open ladies’ freestyle relay team that stormed to first place, ten metres ahead of the field, but West Suffolk could still only finish in fourth.

n TWO junior table tennis teams from Haverhill had good starts to their Suffolk and Cambs Junior Border League campaigns.

Rhys Davies and partner Adam Kirby, won all three of their matches for Essence on Saturday.

Ben Wilkins and Ellis MacBain took top spot in division two after winning all four of their matches.

n LADIES golf was the only competitive element at Haverhill Golf Club this week.

Wednesday’s wet weather saw a small field take to the first tee for the medal round and as Denise Walker was the only player in the Silver Division she walked over.

Gerry Wheatley had to compete for the bronze division and carried on where she left off in the Turkey Trot by showing a clean pair of heels to the other starters by returning a 76 which was three too good for Jackie Condon.

Languishing in a distant third spot was Marian Mercer (85).

The winning margin for Gerry in the Turkey Trot was only one stableford point but it edged the countback pair of Pat Kennedy and Lyn Fish into second and third places.
